About the Match
Match prediction for West Indies vs India 1st ODI Match, West Indies vs India prediction. To be played Aug 08 2019 at the Providence Stadium
India started their tour of the West Indies 2019 with a 3–0 stormy victory in the T20 series. Considering the fact that this was where the West Indies had the best chance of getting away with a win, the chances for the home side to advance are not very bright.
The Indian team has to ask some important questions about the most important number 4 batting position so that some new faces can get a place in the team. As for the West Indies, this will probably be the final series for Chris Gayle (it’s difficult to say at the moment!) And they too would like to advance to the ICC ODI rankings.
A bilateral ODI series does not hold much context just after the World Cup but it will not diminish the intensity of the competition or the desire of the two teams to win.
On 8 August 2019, West Indies vs India 1 ODI will be played at Providence Stadium, Guyana.
For the noise that the West Indies made at the start of the ICC World Cup 2019, it could win only two matches in the entire campaign. Pakistan’s brutal regime and ruse against Afghanistan will not be the goal that the West Indies set.
It should also be remembered that the West Indies had to play a tough qualifying tournament due to their low ICC ODI rankings and would have to start winning again to avoid the same fate.
This series against India is not going to be easy.
Chris Gayle is set to return to the team after scoring a few runs in the Global T20 Canada. As we saw in the World Cup, however, scoring runs in the T20 league is no guarantee of international success.
We think John Campbell might get a chance to bat with Chris Gayle, followed by Shai Hope, Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetimer, Roston Chase, Jason Holder, Carlos Brathwaite, Fabin Allen, Sheldon Cottrell and Ocean Thomas.
Kemar Roach is a genuine wicket-taking bowler and he can play against either Faben Allen or Oshen Thomas but it looks like he is going to miss.
The West Indies have the least batting talent on paper, but the trick is to find continuity. Often their batsmen do not show enough patience and lose wickets very often and eventually have to struggle to play fifty overs.
The bowling is not very good, especially without Andre Russell to provide the X-factor and they are going to struggle to take 10 Indian wickets. We just hope that the West Indies take ODI cricket seriously and from a long-term perspective, otherwise it is going to be a one-sided series.
West Indies Starting Lineup
Starting lineup not yet available.
Does losing semi-finals make India a bad side? We think it is a testament to how good this side is that anything less than a World Cup victory was perceived as a failure. The Indian team has consistently featured in the best ODI sides of the world and makes it to number 2.
It is easy to recognize Indian powers. He has a superb top order and considerable variety in the bowling attack. Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli are going to be top-3 for the team and they are going to be enough to win most of the matches.
The problem comes from number 4. Lokesh Rahul should get a chance to strengthen that position especially after his good performance at that number in the World Cup. We think Manish Pandey at number 5, Rishabh Pant at 6, 7. Ravindra Jadeja will be played. India can then select three fast bowlers and one spinner or two from each to play depending on the circumstances.
Mohammed Shami is back in the squad and will lead the bowling attack next to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Khalil Ahmed and Navdeep Saini will be hoping to showcase their skills ahead for a few occasions in this series.
The Indian team does not have many weaknesses. We have seen over the years that they only struggle when they lose early wickets or when they set goals above 330. Neither of these two is going to be easy for the West Indies.
India Starting Lineup

The team that wins the toss wants to bat first. The pitch is expected to be good for batting and remain consistent throughout the match. If anything, it may slow down a bit in the second innings.
PITCH AND CONDITIONS
West Indies vs India first ODI will be played at Providence Stadium, Guyana. The weather forecast for the match day is a bit mixed. There is a 40% chance of rain around the start of the game and then it gets better. We had a similar forecast for the T20 series but a delayed start was that we had to contend with it.
Hopefully the rain will stay away for this match as well.
Guyana’s pitch was good for batting. It was quite flat and did not give much help to the bowlers. A high scoring match with a score of over 300 can be expected.
FantasyPowers11 prediction for West Indies vs India 1st ODI 2019. We have made the team assuming that Chris Gayle is going to be available for selection and India will continue to make some team changes and give opportunity to their young players. We will update and toss our FantasyPower11 team for the West Indies vs India 2019 after pitch report so make sure you follow @cricketbettings for the latest updates.
Wicketkeeper: Nicholas Pooran, Shai Hope and Rishabh Pant have three good options available here. We have dropped the first two more Pant keeping in mind the strength of the Indian top order.
Batsmen: Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and John Campbell are the only three batsmen we have selected. Not picking Shikhar Dhawan was a deliberate move based on his recent form as happened to Chris Gayle. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are the two best ODI batsmen in the world and we will always return these two against a weak bowling attack like the West Indies. John Campbell is an early batsman who can be quite dangerous and is available at a cheap price of just 8 points.
All-rounders: Jason Holder, Ravindra Jadeja, and Roston Chase all made it to our FantasyPower11 squad for the West Indies vs. India. Holder and Chase are the actual contributors to the batting lineup, while Ravindra Jadeja is going to be a handful with the ball.
Bowlers: Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami and Yuzvendra Chahal are our three bowlers for this match. We have been to an all-India bowling attack because we do not think clearly that West Indian options have enough quality. The relative fragility of West Indian batting is also a factor.
Captain and Vice-Captain: We have decided to select Rohit Sharma as captain and have selected Virat Kohli as vice-captain of India vs West Indies for our FantasyPower11.

One-day cricket is the place where the Indian team is in the strongest position. It has been winning matches around the world for the past several years and we have no reason to see why it should change.
